Today I got a phone call asking if I’d like to interview for a job. Great! I thought.
Here’s the story.
I got a phone call from a withheld number. “Hey, is that James?” she asked, and I reassured her that I was James. “I’m calling because you applied for a copywriter role and I was wondering if you’d like to come in for an interview?”
“Hi. Yes. Great. Thanks. When?” I said, or something. We haggled over when I was available until she asked “Tomorrow at 10am sound good?”
“Sure, great!” I said.
“Okay, I just need to run everything by Michelle and then I’ll send you an email confirming everything and telling you how to find us.”
“Hi. Yes. Great. Thanks. Bye.” I said, or something.
At that point in the conversation (i.e. when it was over) I realised that she hadn’t mentioned the company’s name, or at least, I couldn’t remember her saying it. She said the name of the role “Copywriter” so I had a vague idea based on what I’ve applied for recently. The trouble is, I’ve applied for loads of stuff recently.
I figured everything would be explained when the email came through, except it never did. I waited, and waited, and it never came through. So now I’m in a bit of a pickle. Because I have an interview in ten hours time, and I don’t know where it is, and I don’t know who it’s for. I can’t phone back because the number was withheld.
The one that I think it is is about an hour away, so I’d have to leave at 9am, right when the office hours start. I’m hoping that first thing tomorrow morning I get a phone call by the girl who had realised her mistake, and is calling to re-schedule. The alternative is that I phone the company who I think it is, ask for Michelle, and hope for the best.
It’s kind of annoying how my first interview since my second interview 3 months ago has come about in such incredibly annoying circumstances. Let me repeat: My interview is in ten hours, I don’t know where its is, I don’t know who it’s for. How am I supposed to adequately prepare for an interview when I only find out who the company is an hour before the interview? And I’ve been at work all night tonight.
So all in all, even if I do show up at some form of interview tomorrow, I don’t fancy my chances.
Until tomorrow, at least it won’t be my fault.
