Today is Pancake Day in the UK. It very may well be Pancake Day outside of the UK as well, come to think of it. Do they have Pancake Day in other countries? I’ve never considered it before. I guess Shrove Tuesday is a religious holiday primarily, so that wouldn’t be specific to Engla…

I found out some troubling information about Alice today. It’s the first Pancake Day since we moved in together, and it turns out that Alice is… one of those people.

She prefers to make lots of tiny pancakes to eat in a stack, I prefer huge pancakes that take up the entire pan. I fill the middle with topping (Greek yoghurt, melted Cadbury’s chocolate, lemon juice, and Demerara sugar) and then roll my pancakes up like a burrito. (aka, the only acceptable way to eat a pancake)

I’ve known her ten years and I’m only just finding this out. I don’t know how to feel about it. I feel betrayed.

What I will say, however, is that a smaller pancake makes for excellent flipping.

You can get far more air on a tiny pancake than on a pan-sized pancake. (in other news I’ve just realised why they’re called PAN-cakes)

I think on that last flip, the pancake actually hit the ceiling, but it still counts, and it’s still edible. Flipping pancakes is fun. I seem to remember that, for some reason or other,I was in the paper as a child for flipping pancakes. I don’t know if that’s true. It might’ve been my sister.

To be fair to Alice, she completed her tiny pancake stack by using the remaining mixture to make a full-sized one, and she added peanut butter M&Ms, which melted and made mini pancake rainbows. She then put them all together and slathered them in melted Cadbury’s.

Pancake Day is definitely one of the best religious holidays. No unnecessary cards. No flowers. No presents. Just milk, egg and sugar (I think) and toppings of your choice.

Until tomorrow, although Greek yoghurt, melted chocolate, lemon juice and Demerara sugar are the correct toppings of choice.

  1. I don’t think we have a pancake day in the states, but I feel like I need to celebrate it now! Those looks seriously delicious, are you going to put up any recipes for it at all?
