Today I watched the Wimbledon final with my grandparents. My Grandma really likes tennis, so I phoned her midweek and asked if I could come round and watch the final with her. I thought it would be nice, I haven’t seen them in a while. My Grandad doesn’t really like tennis, nor does my girlfriend, but we all sat and watched it together. It was nice.

Grandma made us lunch. I don’t know what it is, and I don’t know if this is just in my family, but sandwiches always taste the nicest around my grandmas.

It can’t be the ingredients, because it’s just ham, cheese and salad cream. It’s not even her special touch, because even if my Mum makes the sandwiches at my Grandma’s house, they still taste better.

Maybe it’s just something to do with having food made for you that makes it taste nicer. Grandma is much like my Mum (or should that be the other way around?) in that she is a crowd pleaser, and a hostess. She even cracked open a leftover tin of celebrations from Christmas, and offered me a Chocolate Egg from Easter.

She knows how to throw a party.

It’s a known thing in my family that Grandma sandwiches are the best. And they were even better today because she made them with part-baked rolls. Nom. So good.

Is that a thing for other families too? Maybe sandwiches at grandmas just makes me reminiscent of my childhood, which makes them taste better. I also swear that I’ve never tasted a better cheesy pasta bake than the one Grandma makes. I think it must just be the comfort factor.

Until tomorrow, you can always rely on Grandma.
