Today I reached 10% of my NaNoWriMo novel word count. 5,000 done, 45,000 to go. Four days in, 26 days to go. That is still slightly behind schedule due to the fact that I barely wrote anything yesterday. I’m happy that I wrote as much as I did tonight though, because I’m starting to feel really quite ill with the flu. I had to go downstairs to have a break because I was starting to get a headache from staring at the screen for too long.

It’s going well though. After a couple thousand words of scene building I’m now allowing myself to enter dialogue-mode, and I like writing dialogue more than any other part of writing novels, I think. Dialogue flies by as well, because it doesn’t actually take much thought. You can get a couple hundred words out no problem just with seemingly mundane conversations dressed up as character-building. “It’s good to introduce the character’s outlook and opinions so that you can get a sense for who they are as a person” et cetera, et cetera.

So I’m covering decent ground with conversation between my two protagonists. Because I’m writing this novel in third person, I don’t get the usual stream-of-consciousness narration to build the character persona, so it has to be done through dialogue. I need to be careful not to get carried away, though.

Please forgive me that these blog posts are shorter than normal. I don’t particularly want to waste words on this at the moment.

Until tomorrow, no offence.
