Today I went for an early morning 5k run around a zoo. I woke up and it was gloriously sunny outside, and there’s a zoo literally opposite my hotel. So, you know… 2 plus 2 makes 5k.
As I always do, I optimistically packed my running shoes for this trip. But today, as I never do, I actually used them. It was fantastic, and beautiful, and reinvigorating. You have to pay to get into the zoo, but there’s a bridge that runs straight over the middle of it from where you can basically see the entire zoo. Unfortunately, I was there too early and none of the animals were awake yet. Maybe they’ll be out tomorrow.
It’s only like the third or forth 5k run I’ve done this year, but if I woke up every day to that view with this weather, then I’d run all the time — that’s for sure.
Because my sense of direction is crap and I didn’t want to stray too far from the hotel, I ended up just doing laps of the zoo. But I was okay with that. It’s just a shame I didn’t see any animals.
It actually made running enjoyable again. I had headphones in, sunglasses on, a good view, and warm weather. It really makes me want to go again, but it’s going to absolutely piss down with rain in the morning and I fly home tomorrow anyway.
As a reward for my early morning exercise, I rewarded myself with a late night kebab.
Until tomorrow, I think I deserved it.
