Today I should really sort out my sleeping pattern. I’m in this weird habit at the moment of not going to bed until gone 2am. It’s always been the case with me that I can’t sleep unless I’m tired. If I get into bed when I’m not ready to sleep, I’ll just lie there for ages — usually fucking about on my phone — until I’m ready to fall asleep.

It’s probably not healthy, but I don’t really feel the affects of it the next day, even though my alarm for work goes off at 6:30am. So basically I’m running on about 5 hours of sleep every night.

It’s always been a weird ‘goal’ of mine to be able to be able to sleep four hours a day and still be a functioning human being. In my mind, going from sleeping eight hours a day to four hours a day gives you 28 extra hours over the course of a week. That gives you a whole extra day worth of awake-time.

Getting five hours sleep compared to eight hours sleep gives you an extra 21 hours of awake-time in a week, and so on. Of course, there will always be a debate over whether you’d get more out of the awake hours if you were properly rested, but whose to say what that even means?

Of course, each situation is different based on the individual, but for me I think I’m currently managing okay getting less sleep. I’m just not making the most of the extra awake hours I get at nighttime, and that’s kind of the problem.

Until tomorrow, nailing that bit is the next step.
