August 20th 2018
Today I’m going to make a vow that I will probably end up regretting. I have a flaky history of sticking to things to commit to, and I see no reason why the outcome of this one will be any different. That being said…
Starting today I pledge to run at least 5k every single day for the next 21 days.
I’ve been thinking of making such a commitment for a while. I’ve even come up with a fancy and/or cheesy name for it: “Five A Day” or FAD. Because it’s a play on the five a day thing that they say about vegetables. Right? That’s brilliant, isn’t it? No? Well I thought it wa… never mind then.
Anyway.
It’s a well-known maxim that “It takes 21 days to make a habit” (albeit slightly less well-known than it’s sister-phrase “it takes 21 days to break a habit”) and it is something I believe in. I’ve just never followed through.
Actually, that’s being unfair on myself. This blog was originally an experiment of that ilk, and after 21 days of consecutive posts, I kinda just carried on. And here we are, over 1300 days later, still posting every single day.
See, I can do it!
And so, I’m going to try it with running. I’ve already got off to a reasonably good (although possibly damaging) start with a 10km trail run today. I was invited on a 5k jaunt, that turned into a 10k trail run and I’m not entirely sure how that happened, to be honest with you.
So, I’ve already done double the distance for the week, but that doesn’t mean I can have a day off tomorrow.
It’s called FAD, not “FADBOSDIDT” (you can work that one out for yourself)
At the start of this year I set two resolutions:
- Align Focus
- Sub-20 5km
I’m not close to either of them, but I’d like to make a start on one of those. (And yes, I’m waiting until August to do so)
Until tomorrow, we’ll see how this goes.
