Today I applied to join the Swindon Harriers Athletics Club. It is, as you can probably infer, an Athletics Club in hometown. This year I’ve been running pretty consistently, and I’ve almost already matched my total distance run from the whole of last year, but I’m looking to take it up a notch and run in the evenings and at weekends too. Primarily, I only run in my lunchbreak at work, and only ever if someone else suggests it, because I do not have the inclination or the motivation to go out for a run by myself.

And so, when the weekends come round, I do not run. And I probably should if I’m serious about reaching my (completely arbitrary and pressureless) goals for the year. Because I don’t have the motivation to run by myself, I’ve joined a running club to hopefully draw motivation from them lot. Well, I’ve applied to join them. I’m hoping they will let me part of their group.

I’ve said this before, but I’ve also committed to start doing Park Run every Saturday morning at 9am. The only problem with that is… well, it’s on Saturday morning at 9am. I told myself I was going to do Park Run last Saturday, and I went to bed with every intention of doing so, but I woke up too late and missed it.

Oh well, there’s always next week. Well, this week.

Running is an important part of my mental and physical health, and so I should take it seriously, and joining the Harriers is a great way of doing that.

Until tomorrow, it’s also a good way to meet new people.
