June 25th 2019
Today I have to make the choice between attending a training conference for my job, or going on a golfing holiday with my mates. I’ve been planning the golf holiday for a couple of weeks now, and the week we all agreed on was the week commencing September 9th. One of the boys has already booked the time off work — he’s an auditor, so has to book holiday as far in advance as possible, for some reason — and we’d said that was gonna be the week.
And then I learnt that there’s a training conference in Brighton that I really, really should attend because it’ll be hugely beneficial to me in my new job role, and I know I’ll learn a lot from it. And I can tell my boss doesn’t want to tell me that I have to go to it, but he does want me to figure it out on my own that I have to go to it.
That being said, I know that if he was in this situation that he’d also 100% want to go on the golf holiday. And I do 100% want to go on the golf holiday. I just can’t do that week. The problem is that the Auditor will find it quite difficult to change the week he’s booked off, and even so, one of the other boys can’t do the week before. So it might have to be that week.
But I also really want to go to the conference. And I’m not just saying that because my boss sometimes reads these blogs. And I’m also not just saying that because my boss’ boss also sometimes reads these blogs. It’s a conference I’ve wanted to go to for a few years and now there’s the opportunity for me to go. I just wish it was a different week.
Until tomorrow, I can’t move the conference so I’ll have to move the holiday.
