Today I birdied the first hole then didn’t do much else after that. I drove to Newport to play golf with my uni mates and– actually, first I had to get a taxi to the train station and then get a train to Gloucester and then I walked to my car because I left it on work on Friday, and then I drove to Newport to play golf with my uni mates.
I birdied the first hole. My drive bounced off a tree and landed in the fairway. I stiffed my pitching wedge to within 15 feet, and then after everyone else had two-putted for par, I sank my birdie putt. I won a couple holes after that, but I definitely peaked early. I even said after I sank the putt “Well, that’s gonna be the best thing I do all round” And it was.
That being said, we were playing doubles/2-on-2, and after ten holes my team was 3-Up. One of those being my birdie. Another being my par on the first par 3. It went completely downhill after that though, and I was barely in the game in the back nine. Our opponents clawed our lead back to All Square, and they even took the lead from us on the 17th green. But we won the 18th and walked out All Square for the day.
That was probably a fair result, because we were good on the front nine, and they were good on the back nine.
Until tomorrow, that literally kind of evens itself out.
