October 14th 2019
Today the main road I take to drive home was closed due to an accident, and I kind of didn’t want to wait in it standstill traffic for two hours, so I decided to stay at work and look at Waze until I could figure out an alternative route home.
I flirted with the idea of driving down the M5 to Bristol and then heading east along the M4, but decided that was too much of a round trip.
I also thought about just getting the train home, but realised that getting home from the station would take ages too, because the crash on the 419 had caused a build up of traffic around town.
Then I thought about just getting off the 419 a few junctions before, and looping through the country roads and somehow finding my way back home (I didn’t back my Sat Nav to assist me there)
Then, I thought if I’m getting off at the earlier junction I may as well just pop in and see my Grandma and Grandad, because that’s where they live.
And so I did.
I don’t see them as much as I should, considering I basically drive past their house every day, so I thought it would be nice, and would give me a chance to wait for the road to clear. I ended up staying until 22:30 because grandma cooked dinner, dessert, and we watched the football.
So in the end, my attempt to avoid taking 2 hours to get home caused me to take 6 hours to get home.
Until tomorrow, but all-in-all I’m pretty pleased with my decision.
