January 23rd 2020
Today my commute time was increased by 40% because of an inconsiderate decision by the shopping centre across the road to stop us from being allowed to park in their car park. Or, at least, that is the line that we have been told. It has been officially confirmed that ‘they wouldn’t let us renew our parking contract’ but unoffically murmured that we didn’t attempt to.
Either way, as a result my 25 minute drive to work (if I leave early enough) now has a ten minute walk to work appended on top of it. Yes I timed it. And then I complained when I got into the office this morning because that is what I tend to do. I also complained this afternoon, but by that point people were sick of hearing about it. They’ve been parking there since Monday, so they’re used to it by now. I’ve been away all week so today was my first experience, and I wasn’t happy.
Naturally, there’s fuck all I can do about it, and I’m just going to have to put up with it, but that doesn’t mean I have to be happy about having to put up with it. It’s a pain, really. I’m told that there is a quicker way that reduces it from a 10 minute walk to a 7 minute walk, but that way involves walking 100% outside, rather than the way I walked this morning which is at least 60% inside, as you can walk through the shopping centre that has now refused us entry to their car park.
I’m annoyed. I’ve made my protestations, and I’m sure I won’t be the only one. But realistically it’s a situation I’m going to have to deal with. I’m just glad I’m not commuting an hour in and back anymore like I used to.
Until tomorrow, put up or shut up.
