Today I booked a flight to Riga.
That’s basically the exact conversation I had with one of the friends that I’m going with. I text him saying “Can we go to Latvia?” and he said “Yes, where is it?”
That’s the kind of friend I need in my life.
The flights are costing us £28. The hotel is costing us £53. It’s going to be a cheap weekend away in a country I’ve never been to before. Covid has taken away the possibility to book random weekends away to new places in some random corner of Europe, but we’re back, baby.
I think I’ve mostly figured out the situation with tests/covid passports/entry requirements, and I don’t think it’s going to be too much hassle. Latvia is on the green list, so we just have to get a test while we’re out there, and one when we get back. We’ll all be double jabbed by the time we go, so we’re allowed into the country without issue.
This will be my first time leaving the country since I went to New Zealand in January 2020, right before Covid hit. Admittedly, I was quite lucky that I got to have a 3 week holiday right before the world closed for a year, but I’m desperate to get away again.
And so… Riga:
Until tomorrow, it looks cool, doesn’t it?
