Today I started reading a book on page 669.
My girlfriend is listening to the audiobook version of The Hound of the Baskervilles, and she recommended that I read it. Luckily I already have the book. It’s midway through my copy of the Entire Sherlock Holmes collection that my Nan bought me for Christmas in 2014.
I know that it was Christmas 2014 because when I opened the book I found this note:
That note made me happy. And also kinda sad. Nan died in 2016, so it was both a beautiful and sad thing to have a note from her.
The book is good. I don’t think I ever made it to page 669 previously, but maybe I should have done. There are 1300 pages in this book, and starting from the beginning is somewhat daunting. Starting part way through and investing in only one story is nice though.
It’s relatively short, and very Sherlock. I feel like because everyone knows the character you can kinda get away with skipping the first 600-odd pages of introduction and get straight to the good stuff.
Until tomorrow, back to it.
