Today I played my second round of golf of the weekend. In many ways, it was a much better round than yesterday. For starters, I got to play golf with my dad for the first time in what must be almost two years!
I did organise a round for us last Father’s Day, but it fell through for whatever reason, so I owed him this one. And that’s why I let him win!!
Alas, no. I did not let him win. Dad played the best I’ve seen him play in a long long time. To the point where I now just assume he’s been secretly playing twice a week since the start of lockdown.
We had a pretty epic match. I was two up through four. Then he clawed it back. We went into the turn all square, and then I crumbled a bit and dad went 3 up with four to play. Then, I mounted the most epic comeback of my life, and went even par through 15, 16 and 17 to bring it back to all square with one to play.
I walked off 17, having just holed a 20 yard birdie putt to win the hole, confident that I could take the win and complete the comeback. And then I duck-hooked my drive into the trees.
It was an anticlimactic end to a great battle, but all in all it was a top day.

Until tomorrow, good game dad.
