Lifetime

December 2nd 2018

Today my eldest sister married her soul mate. It was a beautiful, perfect day, from the ceremony, to the reception, to the dinner, to the party.

I was asked to write a poem to read during the ceremony. It was one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my life, but also one of the proudest.

Here’s what I wrote:

A lifetime couple, entwined as one
Will never quit, will never run
To love another, for all your life
As a husband, as a wife
Takes strength and will, of which you bear
And a special bond, that you both share.
You’ll love each other, no matter what
In sickness, health, and all that lot
An eternal promise, left unbroken
In words uttered, and left unspoken
When day meets dark, and in comes night
Hold her close, squeeze him tight
A lifetime couple, entwined as one
Will never quit, will never run
So hand on heart, to absent friends
And the start of a love, that never ends

Until tomorrow, congratulations Mr and Mrs Aristides.
